Ambiguous Implements

Ambiguous Implements shows an exploration of organic and unexpected shapes in tableware. In a collaboration with Steinbeisser, Amsterdam, and guided by artist and metalsmith Rachael Colley, the outputs from this studio sought to reinvigorate passive eating tools with experimental techniques.

A rolling pin that's not round, a bowl with multiple wells at varying depths, and hand-carved spoons without a predetermined hand position. This work is inspired by Mediterranean and Middle Eastern food traditions of passing, sharing, dipping, scooping, and community building around a table.
Final Meal Event
All of the tools as well as the food elements are hand made and designed to encourage a table environment of sharing, passing, scooping, and swiping. Can the tools on the table create an enhanced dynamic of wonder and connection between those using them?
Wooden elements made from Maple, Cherry, Walnut, and Ash.
Tea Party Testing
A user testing exercise combining the class's first prototypes.

The first iteration of my meal tools, made of wood, are inspired by food sharing, passing, and dipping customs characteristic of the Mediterranean and Middle East
